As one of the largest cannabis groups in Canada, Auxly sought to generate awareness and brand loyalty among cannabis buyers for their Back Forty brand with a fun campaign encouraging the bold reclamation of personal time.
To embody the spirit of freedom and break from traditional tactics in the recreational cannabis industry, we created The National Sparks Department, a fictional organization devoted to life’s opportunities for recreation, especially through the valley of our planet’s precious resources and incredible ecosystems. The NSD is dedicated to fostering awareness and direct action in the spirit of this mission.
As the primary designer for the NSD, I had the pleasure of working on envelope-pushing seasonal campaigns in both creative and strategic roles. Initiatives such as the creation of The World’s Longest Sweater and The World’s Largest Ice Bong, the development of mascot Tokey the Air, and dozens of original illustrations marked my tenure with the NSD. I also designed the original NSD resource site, which acted as a guidebook for making the most out of your Monday. Brand designs were inspired by Canadian National Parks guidelines and vintage outdoors ephemera from around the world.
